Over the years, Kerry Washington has turned heads in many a billowing, feminine gown at the annual Met Gala. But this year, she brought the drama. The Scandal star walked the red carpet on Monday, May 2, in a Tory Burch gown with unexpected sex appeal via a sheer corseted bodice layered underneath a sheer chiffon skirt.
She styled the gown with matching sheer opera gloves and platform stiletto heels. Yet another gorgeous, high-glam look from the actor and producer. This is hardly her first go-round; she’s been attending the Met Gala for over a decade, but we won’t look back that far.
In 2015, Washington wore an enormous pink Prada gown with green accents, then slipped into a bejeweled tea-length dress for the after-party. In 2016, she turned out a dramatic vampy style (while pregnant!) in Marc Jacobs. The next year, Michael Kors outfitted the Little Fires Everywhere star in black and silver with a blunt bob. A personal favorite is 2018’s long-sleeve gold look by Ralph Lauren. It’s just so celebratory.
In 2019 we saw a daring juxtaposition of tank top and tulle via Tory Burch, and of course 2020 was not to be. There was a Met Gala, with basically the same theme as tonight’s, in September of last year, but Kerry Washington skipped it, so this marks her grand return to the tent.
Last time she attended, she sent a message with her rings, which read “Negativity Is Noise.”

This year’s event was hosted by official co-chairs Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Designer Tom Ford, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour are, as always, the event’s honorary co-chairs.
The 2022 theme and exhibition, In America: An Anthology of Fashion, is part two of the Met’s homage to our country’s history. Part one was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion and was held in September, but this year both the exhibition and gala mark a return to their usual May calendar spots.
