It may be November, but when you live in California, weather doesn’t really impact your wardrobe the way it does when you call the Midwest or East Coast home. Case in point: Hailey Bieber’s latest look, which featured a pair of teeny, tiny mini shorts that reminded us of Bella Hadid’s instantly iconic mini shorts and Uggs ensemble.
Bieber wore the shorts for a day of running errands in Los Angeles, pairing them with a matching white T-shirt topped with one of her favorite leather jackets. The shorts themselves are a light color—almost white, but not quite—and made of a stretchy fabric. They hit right at the top of Bieber’s leg, almost like boyshorts underwear. Despite showing off a significant bit of leg because of the shorts, Bieber balanced the look with a slouchy, oversized jacket and an enormous suede shoulder bag, skinny sunglasses, and hoop earrings, adding ankle socks with fluffy shearling clogs for a touch of coziness. As Hadid proved last fall, it’s a cute and trendy combo that works well with fall’s in-between weather vibes; you can ditch the jacket if it warms up, but your toes are warm on those chilly autumn mornings.
Super-mini shorts were one of the biggest trends on the spring 2023 runways, including via Gucci and Prada, and Hailey Bieber’s pal Kendall Jenner was one of the most enthusiastic adopters. In September, she wore teeny shorts with an oversized Oxford shirt, essentially appearing pantless on her day out. A year prior Jenner went even shorter, layering a pair of Bottega Veneta underwear-as-shorts over matching black tights. We haven’t seen Bieber in microshorts until now, but she has experimented with another equally popular trend, swiping a pair of her husband Justin’s boxers to wear as shorts over the summer.
Los Angeles may be relatively warm all year round, but Bieber doesn’t exactly pay attention to weather patterns when getting dressed for the day. Mini shorts also offer a plethora of styling options, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on her ’fits over the next few weeks to see if they pop up again.
