While you’re revamping your wardrobe this year, you may want to invest a little more time in your top drawer. Lingerie trends have been making their way out of the bedroom and into everyday outfits for a while now, but if the spring 2023 runways were any indication, they’re hitting mainstream this year.
Remember when the sheer dress trend had us all by the neck last fall? Well, it’s not just gowns and minis anymore. Celebs have cosigned the tights-as-pants look for spring, so you can step out to brunch in just your 30-deniers and feel right at home. For something on the (technically) less subtle side, turn the clock back to peak logomania with a whale tale here and a sports bra there emblazoned with your label of choice. Of course, if you’re looking for a positively cherubic Valentine’s Day date night outfit, saccharine details abound; think pointelle, rosettes, and bows to easily incorporate into your dinner, or dessert, look.
Celebrities, as usual, are ahead of the curve, what with every scroll through Instagram feeling like a dive deeper into the annals of Victoria’s Secret’s catalog history. Seemingly every A-lister out there is wearing their best lingerie on the outside (of their homes, bodies, etc.)—Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lizzo are just a few that are keeping the outfit inspo coming. Keep scrolling for some of our faves.
Tights as pants
Giddyup, because this is arguably the most wearable of all the lingerie trends coming at you this year. Wearing tights out is hardly new in winter—but Kendall Jenner wearing a semi-opaque pair as all the pants she needs? Inspired. The choice of underwear really depends on how daring you’re feeling that day, but we vote for cheeks. You can offset the scantily clad feel with an oversized sweater and then jazz it up with suede slingback heels, because this look was intentional, after all.
Sweeter than sweethearts
The bob. The makeup. The dress. There are truly no notes we’d give Barbie Ferreira other than that we simply need more. Our love for ’90s nostalgia never sleeps, so it’s no surprise pretty little details and minimalist cuts are giving us all the heart eyes. Take your pick from teeny tiny rosettes or mini peekaboo keyholes to ditsy flower prints; just make sure you have some spaghetti strap realness and at least one pointelle item for this ultra-feminine look.
Edgier airy dressing
This now viral TikTok video of Hailey Bieber getting ready for a night out is all the Valentine’s Day inspiration you need. You could stick with a more bedroom-esque sheer slip, but we’re loving how Ms. Nepo Baby is keeping the airy trend fresh with the addition of flouncy rosettes and cascading ruffles. Of course Bieber caused this Fancí Club dress to sell out immediately, but it’s still available in white and pink; whichever you choose, just make sure to layer a similar-color lingerie set under your barely there look.
The Barbie-fication of logomania
At this point you’re no stranger to logomania—you may have a Calvin Klein sports bra on deck for movie night, and you may have tried to manifest a pair of Loewe’s tidy whities for yourself. But in the year that Barbie premieres, we and Lizzo would like you to turn the dial all the way up to Pantone Pink 219C the next time you’re thinking of adding labeled undies to cart. And while you’re at it, make sure your beauty game can keep up by tossing high-gloss and rich, shimmery hues to your makeup palette.
Put a bow on it
Fall’s most opulent trend, the opera glove, gets even more gussied up in this bow-heavy look from Olivia Rodrigo. Though she wore this matching Fancì Club set to the premiere of her documentary last year, we think an abundance of bows—and some patent platform heels—is “good 4” any night you want to channel an angsty Marie Antionette. Take note from Rodrigo with the casual middle part to keep the look grounded, and a colorful phone charm to remind your followers it’s still 2023.
